Say ‘I do’ at Houses of Parliament

Looking for an unusual wedding venue with ‘wow’ factor and an air of history? After approval from Westminster Council, The Houses of Parliament have now been approved for civil partnership ceremonies for members of the public for the first time in history. At present the 14th-century chapel can be used by MPs, peers, officials and their families for wedding ceremonies, but religious venues cannot be used for civil partnerships and marriages. Two rooms have been approved for civil ceremonies until 25 January 2013: the Jubilee Room, which overlooks Cromwell Green and has space for 80 people, and for grander ceremonies, the MPs’ dining room can accommodate up to 150 guests.

Alison Cathcart, Westminster’s Superintendent Registrar for almost 20 years, said: “I’m delighted that this prestigious venue has been granted approval and very much look forward to conducting the first civil ceremony in such a famous and historical setting.”
