Jersey’s history mapped out
Jersey’s history during the German occupation has been brought to life in a new map. The Jersey Occupation Trail highlights the 26 defensive structures on the island, with illustrations and detailed information on each. The number of battlements, tunnels and concrete bunkers built during Jersey’s five-year occupation was entirely out of proportion to the island’s strategic value, yet Hitler demanded that the Channel Islands were turned into ‘impregnable fortresses’. The remains of these buildings give a remarkable insight into the period and it is hoped that this new guide will allow visitors to explore the island’s fascinating history in much more detail than ever before.
