Former home of Beatles frontman is honoured with a
John Lennon’s London flat at 34 Montagu Square, which he shared with Yoko Ono while working on material for the Beatles’ White Album, is to be commemorated with a blue plaque from English Heritage. The plaques are used to highlight places of historical interest, or the former homes of famous historic figures. The house where Lennon grew up in Liverpool has also been marked with a blue plaque and was one of the first properties outside of London to be awarded with the honour a decade ago.
The flat in London was Lennon’s first home with Yoko Ono and has many connections with the Beatles. It was bought in 1965 by Ringo Starr and briefly tenanted by Paul McCartney before the Lennons moved there in 1968. The plaque is set to be unveiled at 34 Montagu Square on 23 October 2010
